Apple iPads are costly and you need to know that Apple’s one-year warranty doesn’t cover accidental damage. So here are a few tips to getting an Apple iPad screen fixed.
1. Have Apple fix it.
In case of a screen crack, you can get your screen repaired from the Apple Store. It is the most convenient this way. AppleCare has a premium of about $99 dollars for two years and it covers two incidents of accidental damage for a $49 service fee. It’s available on purchase, but you also do have about 60 days after purchase to buy it.
In case you do not have AppleCare, then it will cost about the price of a new iPad to fix your display screen. Apple charges from about $199 to $599 to fix a broken iPad screen, It also depends on which model you are buying. Generally, getting your iPad repaired from Apple will be costlier than getting it done from your local shop.
2. Consult a reliable expert to fix the problem.
There are a number of other places to get your iPad screen fixed, but choosing a non-Apple repair shop will bring your warranty in a flux. And also, Apple can tell if a non-Apple employee has repaired your iPad. However, if you’re out of warranty then there are a number of third-party Apple repair places which fix the shattered screen of your laptop.
When you are shopping around for a good repair company, then there are some questions which you need to ask before handing the device to them.
- How much will it cost?
- How long will it take?
- What type of warranty do you offer?
- Where do they get their replacement parts from?
3. Avoid the DIYs
You can find the glass replacement kits and dense DIY tutorials online which show you how to fix your iPad screen all by yourself, but trust us, you need to avoid it.
Replacing the glass is much more difficult than replacing the entire touchscreen, because you will need to separate the glass from the touchscreen and then glue the new piece of glass onto the old touchscreen.
This is something that you should leave to the professionals. But if you really want to give it a shot, then remember that a touchscreen replacement kit, including the LCD screen and digitizer, can cost unto $30 and $400, depending on the components which you need in the model. We haven’t tested these replacement parts ourselves and do not recommend them.
4. Deal with the problem.
If you do not have enough cash, or are simply dealing with a small crack, you can also try to make the best of what you got.
It will not look pretty, but you do not need to replace your screen when it cracks. If the cracks are around the edges of your screen, then they do not interfere in the overall interface. But if you have one or two big cracks which run across the screen, then a glass screen protector can be a lot useful.
